How To Tell When Your Website Needs a Refresh
3 Tips from a Website Developer
When is the last time you “Googled” your company? Is your business easy to find? What does your website communicate about you? Your staff? Does it convey the type and level of attention your customers can expect to receive? Most importantly, does it drive the results you want?
First Impressions Count
Your website often forms the first impression of you and your business––it’s your front door, if you will. If your web copy touts high-tech service but the site’s navigation and imagery appear antiquated, what is the take-away?
In general, consumers don’t trust what looks old; an outdated website can make a business feel out-of-touch. According to Stanford University, 75 percent of people judge the credibility of a company based on the design of its website alone.
Which begs the next question––how does your website look on the newest mobile devices? Modern technology isn’t trying to keep up with your website––you need to keep up with technology. If you don’t, you will be left behind and your competitors will be reaping (your lost) rewards.
Time for a Refresh
So how do you know if your website needs updating? Here are a few indications:
- Your branding has changed. Maybe your logo has changed, or you’ve increased your service offerings. Perhaps you have a new spokesperson splashed across all your advertisements. When your on and offline branding doesn’t match, your customers will get confused. Brand consistency is key across all mediums. Your web design should align with the overall image of your brand.
- You’ve noticed a drop in web visits and/or conversions. It may be that your site’s navigation is clunky. Maybe the calls-to-action aren’t as intuitive as you had hoped. Or your competitor’s keywords are stronger and your potential customers never even visited your website. Whatever the reason, a new, better optimized website can help resolve issues and make way for improved visibility.
- You “Google” your business… and don’t come up in a search. A new website won’t guarantee improved search rankings but it can certainly help. And websites aren’t set-it-and-forget-it tools. New content lets search engines know that your business is still relevant. One caveat: you’ll need to ensure your messaging aligns with your keyword strategy (but that’s a topic for another blog).
Creating or refreshing your website may seem like a daunting task, but that’s where we can help. We’ll get to know your business and talk with you about your goals, then develop a website you can be proud of that drives the results you want.
