According to the latest statistics available from the United States Census Bureau, almost 11 percent of Massachusetts residents live below poverty levels… and many are children. As September is upon us, back to school needs can be a burden for those less fortunate. Help us do our part to provide much needed support for children in need by keeping them warm this winter. Every year area residents and local businesses work with the Springfield Salvation Army to help keep kids warm by donating gently used or new winter coats. With a goal of collecting thousands of coats for local children the hope is that no child will go without a coat this upcoming winter. How you can help:
Employers can participate by becoming a Presenting Sponsor and receive promotional value through public relations efforts and advertising through multiple local media channels. Alternatively, employers can also opt to become a Collection Sponsor with the same great benefits on a smaller scale. Both Presenting Sponsors and Collection Sponsors will serve as collection points for coat drop-offs.
Contact Michelle Abdow at Market Mentors to inquire for details about becoming a Presenting Sponsor or Collection Sponsor at 413-787-1133 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Anyone can help by donating a gently used or new winter coat by depositing it at any of the Salvation Army collection points. Boxes will be provided to collection points and available for drop offs starting the week of September 30th through October 18th at participating locations found here: salvationarmycoatsforkids.com/drops.php.
About Salvation Army Coats for Kids
The Salvation Army “Coats for Kids” campaign was established in 1980. Over the last 30 years, tens of thousands of winter coats have been collected and given to western Massachusetts children in need. Each year, dozens of local businesses and organizations take part in the initiative to keep kids warm by collecting gently used or new winter coats.
The initiative asks members of the community to donate new or gently used winter coats that have been outgrown or simply not worn. Belmont Laundry, with several other locations throughout greater Springfield, has pledged to clean every donated coat before it is distributed to children in need.
